Background & Need

Research shows that educational experiences that are active, social, contextual, engaging, and student-owned lead to deeper learning. The benefits of collaborative learning include: Development of higher-level thinking, oral communication, self-management, and leadership skills, and more (Cornell).

Remote learning allows for flexibility, accessibility, and provides opportunities to collaborate with peers beyond geographical limitations. Consider your remote learning space and other online spaces that allowed you to collaborate with peers online. We have the opportunity to identity and bring with us into the “new normal” only the most valuable components.
A majority of K-12 educators expect that remote learning will continue to grow over the next three years.

The field of Educational Technology has witnessed an upsurge and is expected to be the new normal in the future as well. Before the coronavirus pandemic, the EdTech sector was estimated to reach a value of $342 billion by 2025. The forecast revisions accounting for the impact of COVID-19 pandemic now predict the global EdTech market to reach $404 billion by 2025 (HolonIQ).

The way people work together is changing across age groups and sectors. For some companies in Maine, the work-from-home structure is here to stay. Most Maine workers are looking to continue working remotely in some capacity, and demand for fully remote work is soaring.
