The concept of the Maine Learning Technology Initiative began with a vision of former Governor Angus King to prepare Maine's students for a rapidly changing world. 

Commissioner Makin and her DOE team envision the people of Maine as lifelong learners served by an innovative, equitable, and learner-centered public education system that supports students – early childhood throughout adulthood - in achieving healthy, successful, and fulfilling lives that allow them to shape the future.

Dr. Shah acts as Director of the state agency that protects the health and improves the lives of all Mainers. He has been at the forefront of Maine’s response to COVID-19 and earned widespread praise for his handling of the crisis.
 

Beth leads the Maine DOE's Technology and Learning team, which provides equitable access to the technology and skill development needed to ensure students are prepared to create and problem-solve in the 21st Century. 

Since 2002, Chris and his team at CATES have worked closely with families, schools, and nonprofits to design and support personalized education programs that maximize students’ potential through media, technology, and face-to-face instruction.
